Between the formidable Drakensberg Mountains and the Indian Ocean lies the historical heartland of the Zulu nation, where the colourful way of life and proud traditions have been largely preserved. Many of the best game and nature reserves in all of Africa are to be found here while the sun-drenched coastline is one of the southern hemisphere's most popular holiday destinations. A rich tapestry of fierce and bloody clashes between British, Zulu and Voortrekker forces can be found in several battlefields routes.

Zulu village

Day 1 & 2 Durban
Arrive at Durban International Airport. Overnight at your hotel on the beachfront.
Enjoy a scenic drive from the Blue Lagoon, along Snell Parade and the famous Golden Mile. The Orchid House and Cycad gardens at the Durban Botanical Gardens are well worth a visit. Enjoy lunch at the Ushaka Marine Theme Park, one of the world's biggest marine parks, before exploring the marine tanks and enjoying the penguin, seal and dolphin shows.
Day 3

Himeville
A detour along the southern ridge of the Valley of a Thousand Hills will reward you with incomparable views of the seemingly endless rolling hills. Continue towards Underberg and Himeville at the foothills of the Southern Drakensberg Mountains.

Day 4

Sani Pass
Today you do a 4x4 vehicle tour up to the Roof of Africa via Sani Pass, the highest pass in Africa. A major adventure with stunning views of the Drakensberg Mountains. Have a drink and lunch at the highest pub in Africa before visiting a Basotho village.

Day 5 Dundee
Travel inland to the heart of the battlefields and overnight near Dundee. Your host is an expert guide and will keep you enthralled with his tales of the extraordinary saga of the Zulu-Boer, Anglo-Zulu and Anglo-Boer wars.
Day 6

Battlefields
Visit the scenes where the heroic battles took place, starting with the Zulu-Boer wars more than 170 years ago.

Day 7

Simunye Zulu lodge
Travel east towards the Zulu Kingdom's historical capital for a unique Zulu cultural experience and tribal dance performance at Simunye Zulu Lodge. Accommodation in the rock lodges is recommended.

Day 8 & 9 Hluhluwe-Umfolozi
Visit and overnight at Hilltop camp, arguably the prettiest in all of Africa. The Park is the home of the southern subspecies of the White Rhinoceros - saved from extinction in this very reserve. Enjoy nature at its very best by exploring the reserve with its rich plant and animal life.
Day 10

Umdloti
Head south and overnight near Durban. Relax at the beach and swim in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.

Day 11

Durban
Drive to Durban International Airport to return home or select from the other tours.
