An enchanted landscape beckons the traveller on the N2 coastal road between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Ancient forests, towering mountains, white sandy beaches, the indigo waters of the warm Indian Ocean and peaceful lakes create a magical garden through all seasons. The climate is mild even in winter, the air always fresh and filled with the fragrance of wild flowers. A short drive inland are the fertile sun-drenched valleys of the Little Karoo traversed by the historic Route 62. End your visit to the Garden Route with a game experience in the malaria free Eastern Cape just outside of Port Elizabeth.

The Heads, Knysna

Day 1 - 3 CAPE TOWN
Arrive at Cape Town International Airport and drive to your hotel in the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Relax while you savour the leisure, culinary and scenic attractions of this wonderful location in the shadow of Table Mountain. Enjoy this city’s myriad attractions: visit Kirstenbosch National Gardens with its 6000 plants species, go up Table Mountain in a revolving cable car for an unforgettable panorama of the city, take a trip to Cape Point, the southwesterly tip of Africa, or enjoy the antics of the penguin colony at Boulders Beach. A boat trip to Robben Island, prison of Nelson Mandela for 18 years, will leave an indelible memory. And be spoilt for choice of restaurants, shops and wine bars and beaches. Shop at Canal Walk, one of the world’s most luxurious shopping centres en route to a visit to one of the many wine estates in Stellenbosch, 30 minutes east of the city.
Day 4 CAPE AGULHAS
Follow the scenic coastal route, often called the Coast of Flowers, via Gordon’s Bay, Betty’s Bay and Hermanus to Cape Agulhas. Quaint fishing villages await you along one of shipping's most treacherous coastlines in the world as you make your way to the southernmost tip of Africa.
Day 5 & 6 MOSSEL BAY
Return to the N2 and head towards Mossel Bay where Bartholomew Diaz first landed in 1488. Enjoying what is arguably one of the finest climates in the world, it’s a pleasure to relax on the incredibly white sandy beaches. Visit Diaz Museum and the first Post Office in the Southern Hemisphere, a tree. Recommended is a trip on the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe, a steam train, to George. Overnight at The Point Hotel in its magnificent setting on rocks overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Day 7 & 8 KNYSNA
Take a short inland drive via the Robinson Pass to the ostrich capital of the world, Oudtshoorn, where you can visit the famous Cango Caves and an Ostrich Show Farm. Return via George to the Garden Route. The road passes through the beautiful lake district near Wilderness before reaching Knysna, the jewel of the Garden Route where you will spend two nights. Explore the Knysna estuary on a boat trip to The Heads, two giant sandstone cliffs at the entrance to the lagoon, swim at Brenton-on Sea, enjoy a game of golf at the excellent Pezula resort, visit Monkeyland and Birds of Eden near Plettenberg Bay. And enjoy the oysters for which the town is famous.
Day 9 TSITSIKAMMA
Experience the might of the Indian Ocean where endless waves break on the rocky shores near the Storms River mouth. A stunning backdrop of mountains covered in fynbos and forest complete one of the most breathtaking scenes along the Garden Route.
Day 10 & 11 Drive via Port Elizabeth to the Addo National Elephant Park, the world’s first “Big 7” Game Reserve in the malaria free Eastern Cape where you can stay two nights in the Park. Hunt with your camera and binoculars for the sometimes elusive big game in the Park. Also recommended is an Elephant Back Safari near Addo. Overnight in the Park.
Day 12 PATERSON
Ensure that you encounter all of the famous big game of South Africa by visiting a Private Game Reserve in the Paterson area. Your stay includes all game activities and all meals. Overnight near Paterson.
